I'm in the process (have 5) of getting a set of cams, and am wondering how to maintain them. I've heard you lub them and am wondering how often and what brands anyone would recommend. thanks

You can purchase the Metolius Cam Maintenance kit, which is an all in one kit or go to a bike shop and purchase the cleaning agent and lube seperately (cheaper and in greater amounts). As for brands Metolius uses White Lightning which isn't that bad, though, I have heard there are better lubes out there. For a cleaning brush just use a toothe brush or go to a military surplus store and buy an M-16 rifle cleaning brush (same hing as the Metolius kit) Later on when your Trigger wires start to fray you can replace those by buying the Cam Doctor Trigger Wire repair kit or go to a hardware store and buy the parts seperate and do it yourself, which will have a higher initial investment but pay off in the long run.

Most cams have directions for maintenance. Usually goes like this: Warm water air dry lube if necessary There have been a few posts on this before I think. I remember reading some of them.

Any of the "dry" bike chain lubes will work awesome, even on new cams you will notice an improvement.

I posted the same message on a different thread also about cam maintenance and was wondering if I can use WD-40 on them. I havent tried but I was wondering if I should. Thanks, Tony

I've washed them in a solution of d-Limonene and water, any temperature, let them air dry, and then cover them with a healthy amount of a teflon lubricant (where it is /needed/), let them dry again, and wipe off the excess. easy as slicing bread.
