Broughton Bluff at the entrance to the Gorge or Beacon Rock would probably be the best place to go until you get a rope. Rocky Butte is another, place in town, but it might be best to wait until you can build anchors and have a rope before venturing around there. BillCoe_ who grew up at the base of Rocky Butte might be able to steer you to more accessible parts of the it. I would be happy to take you out trad climbing sometime and I suspect Bill would as well.

Josh: Your title was "ground school" in PDX area. If you are new to the area but highly experienced, please excuse my ignorance. I still like to go go set random shit up, even after 30 some years. If I'm out toproping, I'll often grab some nuts and drop them in cracks and fiddle in a meaningless and random manner while waiting my turn. I might not be alone in that bit of strangeness:-) Accept my apology if that is the case.
