After today's horrific weather (nearly 50) I have realized I will not get on the ice at Starved Rock this year. It's now time to look forward to rock. This year I plan on climbing as many of the 3 star trad routes (as rated on climbingdevilslake.com) as I can. Euroford is my climbing partner but I'm always looking for more folk to join. Are there any DL trad climbers out there? I'd love to hook up with some of you this year. Maybe organize a trad outing some weekend. Let me know if you are interested. Cheers!

well i have some freetime this summer and i would like to experience the climbing that the midwest has to offer other than the palisades. I graduate in a year too so i got to start thinking about where i want to go so if there is any good climbing that I can combine w/ my nursing degee so be it.

i go up to the Lake on occasion during warmer weather (50's and higher). i haven't set up a TR there in quite a while since i started leading on gear. i usually only go up for a day-trip. leave downtown chicago around 6 or 7am and get back around 10pm. yeah, i'm a wuss. i'd rather not camp if i don't have to. typically, it's when i'm travel-weary, weather at the Red or SoIll isn't favorable, or if i've obligations that get in the way of a full-weekend trip that i head up to the Lake. i only made it up 3 times in all of 2004 :( ; a new low since i started climbing there...gotta do better in '05. all that having been said, i'd like to meet more people that climb there. IMO i'm still a beginner at leading trad but i can follow/TR a lot harder than i lead. -mike

yeah i was kinda thinking the same thing. it would literally take an unprecidented act of god for the local ice to make a comback after this warmup. on the bright side, its time for rock again!! i'm thinking after next weeks UP ice trip i'll be happy to hang up the tools for the time being and start playing with my cams again. an rc.com DL traddie GTG is a killer idea. especially if we got a fairly even mix of experienced leaders and newcommers. neuroshock: you just havn't been camping with the right crowd man. i guarantee you'll have a blast with steve and i :)

I'd love to head up there sometime this summer. I live in Chicago about 3 hours away from DL, and would love to start doing more Trad. I admit my experience is pretty limited, but ya gotta start somewhere. I don't work Fridays or weekends in the summer, so I have lots of time to climb.

how come another lame 'i need a partner thread' gets 700 views and any thread in this forum with the word 'trad' in it is avoided like a disease (150 views and its older!!). midwest climbers, get out of the gyms and get on the sharp end.

I'm down with that.. Maybe a WEEKDAY gathering would be nice - like a Tue-Wed-Thurs thang (after school is out for hte kids anyway), no lines at the choice spots is always nice.

i figured tom would be down! 8^) the weekday idea is a good one, but in reality i'm kind of against it. i like to save my vacation days for heading up north or out west. We are also sure to get more poeple to go if we keep it a weekend. However, making it a 3-day is something i'm always up for, and showing up on thursday night is usually a good plan for getting good camping spots.

I'm up for a weekend trip up to Devil's Lake. The Trad GTG sounds sweet to me. Any dates in mind?

I would be interested as well. However, I caution that I am complete newcomer to trad, but would welcome the opportunity to learn. Friktion

I would definately be up for a DL trip. Just starting trad but usually up at the lake twice a month. I'd vote for the weekend and can take off from Chicago on Thursday night.

I only work 4 days a week most of the year. So, after April 15 (end of the tax season) I'll be back to that schedule and would love to do some long weekends up there or out west.

Woohoo, one more day of work and then it's up to the UP for a few days of ice climbing. Then it's time to put the tools away (Tim's that is) and get ready for the constant DL rainstorms. We'll make do anyway. Trad climbers, keep in touch and maybe we'll get a nice weekend sometime soon. Cheers!

I would be up for a DL trip anytime. I would take a day or two off of work for a trad climbing get together.

ah yes, my short memory had already put last years torential rainstorms in the background. not only will we make due, past records indicate that we in fact will have a blast. dl trad climbers, this is your mission: the bone (5.5); on lead, 4 beer minimum, in the dark, raining. you can however, take as much gear as you wish, and a BD ion headlamp. the prize: we'll have to come up with something good, maybe a white nuckle blast through baraboo in my brothers lamborghini. of course, we'll have to come up with a bonus for an all passive lead.....
