I did a martial arts course with my son when he was younger, but what finally got me into climbing was putting a metal roof on a 2 story house with a 12/12 pitch. Thats a 45 degree angle almost as slick as glass. We had to set I-bolt anchors at the ridge, very similar to a top rope. After dangling in a harness from the end of a rope for 5 days, I really began to enjoy the thrill. So I am now in debt, after purchasing my rock gear. I find it quite addictive, dreaming about that next pitch and what piece of protection I will set next. Its an adventure for sure!

I was just wondering what sport if any has had the greatest influence on your climbing. What aspects of that sport did you carry over to climbing and how did they help you. For me it was my many years of karate training that has had the greatest impact on my climbing. The breathing techniques that i learned from that training carry directly over to climbing. I assuming that gymnastics will carry over as well. Are there any others out there that you think helped?
