I wanted to ask how many of the people who are scanning this forum are competitors in competitions? And to those who are, what are your general preparations and things to look for? This saturday is my first comp... we'll see how it goes. Anyone who will be in Miami University of Ohio competing let me know... I'll try to find you.

I compete at ABS comps or at local comps. I think it is a blast. Get good sleep...don't climb 2 days prior....hydrate yourself...drink red bull...have fun....pull hard

I try to treat it just like another day cranking. No extra pressure, it'll just shake you up. If theres a good length of time to climb (say an open format comp with like 4 or 5 hours) warm up like you usually would. Tackling that Vhard wall in the begining might help you make it, but alot of these comps its the top 5 scores that count,a nd if your too wasted after the begining to pull even mid range stuff, you havent really helped yourself, in my opinion.

I started doing the USAC comps after doing some ABS stuff... oh and 20 years of international eventing and jumpers (horses). I found--thanks to oral surgery--that a vallium about 30 minutes before I begin takes the edge off and allows me to focus more. Don't let the testosterone get to you. We have some guys I climb with that are way outta control at comps, which ruins it for those of us there to have a wickedly awesome time and climb our little hearts out. Too bad it isn't outside.:(
