Well my sping break is coming up here in a couple months, and I know the season is right NOW, but I'm only going to be able to take a trip on spring break. My question is on the week of March 19-27 where should I go? I've never been to Hueco, but of course I've heard and seen infinite good things about it. I've been to HP40 for a day and it was KILLER! And last but not least So Ill has been put on the map by a buddy of mine who lived down there for a few months, and said the climbing down there is just way to good to believe. I'd like it to be no hotter than the 70s, so where should I go? Hueco, HP40, or So Ill???

Hueco has restrictions on how many can be in the park at a time, spring break will an insanely busy time. I'd make sure that you can get reservations to the park before you head there (if you head there).

unless you have a sure way around the restrictions at Hueco, go to HPs......nothing worse that a weeklong trip that is mostly spent battling reulations instead of climbing......and i really couldnt tell you much about the weather in either place...if you are worried about it being too warm......go north-so ill looks sick...............

HP is killer, but I would go somewhere you have never been. I think So Ill is the place to check out. That way you wont have to worry about Hueco regs.

If you're driving and can be flexible, then wait until the week of. Then go to the place with the best weather forecast.

I agree with keinangst, see how the weather will be each place the week of. I'd also say, depending on what roads you end up taking, you may want to stop a day at Elephant Rocks in southeastern MO. If you're heading to HP or So Ill, that's all sandstone, so mixing it up with some granite for a day would be fun.

Also to note, So Ill is less popular so it has some off the beaten path appeal. HP and especially Hueco will likely have more people around. Just depends on the scene you're looking for.

Are you nuts people?! HP40 is decent but ranking it with Hueco is crazy. If you don't want the Hueco hastle go to Little Rock City in Tennessee. I hear its a lot better than Horse Pens. But screw all those places! Hit the Squamish of the East Coast, Rumbling Bald. It has way more than hp40 and you don't get that eliminate bullshit! You know what I mean, smack in the middle of a problem they'll say that jug is off. Please

Well as you may know the weather here in the south is insane so you may not know if it will be hot or not till the day before you leave if you go to HP40. If you can get off the weekend before that though go to HP for BoulderGrass!!! A Boulder comp during the day and Bluegrass fest. in the evenings! thats going to be awsume! But if you want a change of scenes i'd say go to So Ill - new stuff, off the beaten path, not so bad on the regulations from what i hear. Also your more likely to keep in the cool, DRY weather.

If you are willing to go as far as Hueco, why only these three areas? There are tons of places you could check out. I wouldnt follow the advice of badass. Rumbling Bald is going to be one of the warmest areas you could pick. If you havent been to any of the areas in Boone NC, I strongly recommend them. No restrictions, and you will most likely be able to find a cluster of boulders to suit your temperature preference. I have never been to HP40. From what I hear it is great. If you liked it last time and think more exploring needs to be done, go back there.

Thanks for all the input. I think we're gunna take your advice and watch the weather. My buddy just got back from hueco and said the restrictions just suck, so we're just gunna go with the flow. Thanks again.

I just got back from my first trip to Hueco. We were there for two weeks, and it was incredible. The restrictions suck at first, but after a while you get used to them and realize that the climbing is good enough to be worth all the hassle. SoIll is in my backyard, and I'm there a lot as well. There's definitely a lot to climb in So Ill, but it's no Hueco Tanks. You may be able to get good temps there over spring break, but it also rains there a lot. I suspect it does in Alabama as well. (I was going to go to HP40 for spring break, but I'm heading to the desert instead). Good luck

LRC better then HP40? ummm no... not near the awesomeness of HP40. LRC is a place that is being developed nicely and i am glad that access isn't such a huge issue anymore. i still think HP40 for a good long session, ya know few days cause of the hot running water, good grub, and nice people. anyway thats just my experience, live and learn!

Out of those, I've only been to HP40 and was seriously amazed. That place is a dream come true. Pretty nice place, and some great climbing. Rocktown is also great. So if you have never been there, that is definatley worth checking out.

I'll be driving from California to hit up Hueco on my way to HP40 and Rocktown. Any guidebook info for any of those places besides what you can find on Dr.Topo.com?

You hardly need a guide for HP40 but the best one that I have seen is the one that they use for the Triple Crown Series. You can rent or buy a copy at the HP40 store. You can't miss it.
