Yep, that's right folks. Ivan Greene isn't helping climbing at all. Infact, he's making it worse. The last thing we need is that showboating yuppie to influence young climbers. I'm afriad they will get the new josh lowell video Dosage Vol. 2 and see what I saw. His entire section is littered with shameless self promotion and advertisement. I don't think there was one point in his section that he wasn't wearing something that didn't have the "red bull" logo. Oh wait, he did actually, but he was wearing a belt buckle that had his name on it and later had a red bull in his hand. I wonder how big of a check red bull gave him for all this "great" promotion. Not only does he try and promote red bull in this video, but he also has a "mock" photo shoot. During the photo shoot he has two girls walking around wearing (suprise!) his new clothing line. Incase you haven't seen his new clothing line it consist of tshirts that say "climbing" and short shorts (for the ladies) that have his logo on the ass. I wonder where he got this idea of putting his dumb logo on the ass of a hot girl to make it look good(go to your local mall and see if it looks familiar). With all of this new found fame that he has, it's a great time for him to try and launch his new singing career..... which he does :x About half way through his section in the video they start to play a song that he wrote called "violence." And to make it worse they flip in between shots of him climbing and singing. SWEET, NOW IT'S LIKE MTV :D :D While he is singing he is holding his buddhist beads in hand.....how dramatic. After listening to the song i almost laughed, his lyrical writing skills leave much to the imagination. I'm going show you a few lines from his song: they'll do anything to let the eagle soar is this ling anti-american? tisk tisk ivan so they kill the dove to let the eagle soar yep, it's anti-american watch out, don't buy into their illusions don't buy into their illusions, but buy a red bull  their war ain't no solution looks like he taking a stand against the war. i hope he doesn't think that makes him different or radical. because it seems to be the general consensus. cuz all they know, all they know......violence this line repeats way to many times. how do i know? my ears were bleeding. What am i trying to get across from all of this? Don't buy into Ivan Greene's s---. If you do then climbing will suffer. If you were a fan of Ivan Greene then I am sorry that you were fooled. No, he is not cool. And no, that isn't what climbing is all about. And if you still like Ivan Greene then you must be: A) Ivan Greene B) Brainwashed C) A Yuppie D) Ivan Greene's mom ......shame on you josh lowell. shame on you for ever exposing us to ivan.

I have a question :?: Is Ivan strictly a boulderer?? Quote from the Red Bull site "He’s willing, he says, to climb “absolutely anything.” So where does this modern-day mountain man live?" If he only boulders then I find that statement absolutely ludicrous. A mountain man lol. Wonder how many boulderers and gymbies I will p.o. with that comment? Go ahead and flame away on my comments you wankers

Hey wholesome boy what is your deal? I am about as dirtbag as they come and Ivan doesnt offend me at all. So the guy has sponsors? So he found someone to put him in a video pimping his sponsors? So the guy sings too? What is your deal? Don't be mad that you can't climb at the level that he does. Or that he has sponsors that pay him to climb all the time (not that he needs the money, thats besides the point) Dude you really need to chill out and worry about yourself. Not Ivan, or how he is infuencing the future of climbing. As long as you are pulling hard what do you care what other people are doing? Doobie

dude, wholesome boy, there are some things you're going to need to realize about climbing: -Not everybody who climbs has "being a dirtbag" as their life goal -Some very successfull climbers actually have carreers in god-knows what -If someone has sponsors that actually pay for him to go climb, guess what, that person probably has to give something in return (i.e. advertising/promotion) I agree that he is about as polar an opposite as you can find to your stereotypical Yosemite dirtbag wall-rat, but that doesn't make him any less of a climber, and a very successfull one at that. Some climbers actually care for other (and finer) things in life than climbing has to offer.

hey wholesomeboy why rip Ivan? the man is just trying to make a living- what's wrong with that? so trys to sell his stuff- i would too if i had product to sell if you dont like it-fine dont buy it or dont listen to his music he sings, he climbs, he gets sponsors, and hangs out with hot women---good for him beats being a suffering grad student or a corportate drone and i will say that ivan is a pretty cool guy-smart, funny and a guy who is generous with his time-pretty typical climber in my book and someone who i would gladly share a crashpad or a rope with anyday sure he is intense, but over here on the east coast that aint always a bad thing he is the opposite of the laid back california surfer dude, but we have enough laid back surfer dudes in the world.

Dude, Ivan is the shiznit! Just because you are pissed off because hes a good climber and cocky, dont be pissed. tell you what, when you start climbing v14s, you can talk. Ivan is an incredible boulderer, although he may be cocky, it makes it much more entertaining in a video. maybe we can get you climbing a v1 in the next video. Josh did nothing wrong, hes taping the best climbers in the world climbing the hardest problems in the world. I will continue to drink red bull.

In reply to: And no, that isn't what climbing is all about. and there's no such thing as a tangible objective truth.

This site is pretty nauseating. The language just screams "Aren't I just the absolute, most impressive climbing maniac you've ever heard of". He oozes shameless, over the top self-promotion. I'm all for climbers trying to make a living out of this sport, but Mr. Greene is setting a new standard for gaudy tastelessness.

WOW he wears red-bull logos. Is Dosage II the only climbing video you've seen? I have seen quite a few and in almost everyone the climbers are decked out in their sponor's gear; Prana, Marmot, ect. Big deal if the guy likes the city lifestyle as opposed to the normal hippy or hardman climbers we normally see in videos. I find it refreshing. One thing I do agree with is the singing. Not very good. But damn the guy can climb.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, that red bull site had one of the funniest lines I've ever read:
In reply to: (He’s established more than 200 boulder problems in the Gunks alone and is rated at bouldering grade V13, while his route level is 5.14, just a hundredth of a point away from the highest ranking possible.)
