Description
Figure 8’s provide more friction in descent than belay plates and they can be locked off with ease. DMM’s descender is particularly robust, with lots of metal to take years of rappelling. The hole is large enough to take ropes from double half’s all the way up to 12mm singles.
-Not meant for belaying.
-6082 aluminum.
-Rated to 25kN strength

Come on, it's a figure eight! You can't go wrong rapping off of one of these, but I wouldn't belay with one, nor would I particularly want to be belayed by someone with one. If you haven't used one for rapping though you have to give it a shot. I always carry one locked in a locking carabiner on my gear loop just in case I leave my other rappel/belay device on the ground and don't realize it until I have broken down the toprope anchor and set up the rap.

Good for overall rappelling. Light and strong. Will twist rope like all figure 8 devices. Does not dissapate heat as well as the Black Diamond Super 8 or Rescue 8. I've noticed that this divice wears faster than any of the other figure 8 devices I use.

Good straight forward belay/rappel device and works well for both. Beginners should learn on something akin to this first under supervision.

This is a good figure 8 for rappelling or belaying, although i do like black diamond figure 8's better because the non-oval bottom, although most figure 8's all work the same.
