Description

Can there be such a thing as a “classic sport climbing shoe?” As much as that is a contradiction in terms, we think we hit the target, balancing all-day comfort with shredding performance. The classic split leather upper Plush padding is the order of the day: The ankle, heel cuff and tongue cradle your feet with 2mm of polyurethane foam, and the entire shoe is lined with brushed polyester to help keep the perspiration down and allow for a degree of stretch. The tongue is an all new Mad Science design: Anatomically molded, 3-D, and gusseted to minimize slipping and maximize breathability, comfort and superior fit. Comfort at the expense of performance, however, is just plain wrong—so we hopped this shoe up with great attributes like medium-stiff midsoles for edging and cracks, high toe rands for jamming and hooking; and of course there’s our super sticky Formula #5 rubber for the grip you need. The Frenzy—a paradox in the form of an all-day, all-around performance rock shoe.

Good for the gym, not so much for outdoors 3 out of 5 stars

These are good beginner's shoes at most. Would recommend them for somebody who's starting out. After you start reaching 10a they hinder more than what they help.

Comfortable shoe, but performance is weak. Rubber is way too soft and has worn out in no time flat.

these shoes are very comfy and perform nicely on a bunch of my climbs. i, however didn't have huge a problem smearing with them. i climbed my first chimney in them. they aren't the best for the job, however, and the fact that they don't allow you to feel the rock as well as other shoes is correct. for me, the sole has lasted very well and overall, this is a great begginer shoe. i got mine off e-bay and saved oodles of $$$. but the madrock outlet works too.

I'm testing a pair of these out in the gym. On first impression, they are good for face climbing and should be great for crack climbing, thanks to an uber stiff sole. Smearing, not so much. I still keep the trusty 5.10's in the bag for smeary climbs. These are very comfortable shoes. Note: they do not downsize, I take a mens size 9 street shoe, and a mens 8.5 in these shoes.

There has been a problem with the rubber de-laminating, but supossidly that has been fixed. If I had a choice, I would not buy these again.

I bought a pair of these thinking that i would save a little money and still get a nice shoe...well, i did save money. These shoes are great for edging due to there really thick sole. But they are terrible for smearing and make is pretty hard to feel the rock at all. On the plus side they are wicked comfortable.
