As far as padding, this crash pad is pretty good. Like the description said, its a little softer than normal crash pads, but this aspect makes it ideal for gym bouldering, where you are only going to fall about 10 feet. The only problem we have had is people landing on the edge of it and rolling their ankle. We even had one guy break the head of his tibia (loud pop...) from landing on the edge. But overall, a good investment for indoor bouldering.
