Description

Redpoint Directional QD Set: Combine an easy-clipping Redpoint Directional Bent Wire Gate and a Lightweight Wire Gate, then connect them with a 4" nylon express sling and you'll save some $ on a great set-up. Trango Redpoint Directional™ Carabiners are designed to be the easiest clipping, rope friendliest, raddest looking carabiners around. The sling bay keeps the ‘biners lined up with the direction of the fall forces so they can't get cross-loaded. Unlike other captive-eye 'biners, you can replace your slings when they wear our or you want a different length. Hot-forging allows us to move more metal around during the forging process so you'll find a massive 11mm rope-bearing surface where most 'biners only have 9mm. This minimizes wear and tear on your ropes and reduces rope drag as well. It also allows for clip-friendly finger ridges and a deep well for speedy clips.

My gosh it clips so smooth! This is for sure the draw to have when trying to onsight that overhanging offwidth, 20 feet runout, 2 grades above your ability sport climb. Seriously though I don't think Ive ever even touched a biner with a smoother gate action. However since the gate isn't as tense as the biners I'm used to, I wonder if it would have a higher tendency to unclip during a fall if you backcliped or orrientated the gate the wrong way. With that said I've never taken a fall on these, nor have I taken a fall when I was backclipped or fallen on the gate side of the biner. If I had the money I replace my current set of sport draws with these without a thought.
