Inspired by Team EVOLV design feedback and TRAX Rubber Co. technology, the EVO is our new all-around performance shoe for 2006 that is very versatile. With a comfortable and anatomical fit, they can be used as an all-around long route shoe when sized comfortably, or if sized tightly they can serve as a performance shoe. We equipped the EVO with highly functional features like the perforated, pliable toe rand rubber that delivers a sticky toe hooking surface or crack climbing help, and technical heel hooking ridges. The molded TRAX XF-3 outsole was engineered to have variable thickness gradients of the sole to conform to the foot and provide perfect anatomical support and stiffness and sensitivity where needed. The molded sole is thinner in the arch section for better arch fit and ridged and thicker in the heel section for mild cushioning and the semi-stiff half-length midsole underneath enhances edging power.

Not Bad 4 out of 5 stars

Review by: TheMallit, 2012-08-14

I've been climbing in these for a year or so and I like them. I mostly boulder and these work pretty well for that, but I find the soles to be a bit thick and there's not too much traction, so I slip off the really small holds. They fit my feet really well though, way more comfortable than other shoes I've worn, which can make or break a day of climbing. Overall good shoes.

Would not recommend 1 out of 5 stars

I bought the shoes when I first got into bouldering in Feb. 2010 at REI on sale. They fit fine except the inside toe part makes your foot blister really easily. Also, they have no grip whatsoever so I can not trust my feet, even on the easiest of holds. If it had better grip, I would give it a 3.

No good for Smearing but Great for cracks and edges 3 out of 5 stars

I was blown away by how hard it was to smear in these, but they are downturned just enough to make it damn near impossible without putting my ass really far back.

If I didn't need a shoe for smearing then these would probably be perfect, they edge really well even though I bought them a half size bigger than my street shoe size. I bought them big so I could crack climb in them and found them to be great for that, much less painful than most other shoes for cracks.

In the gym they are perfect, the 'gimicky' ridges on the heal actually worked really well for me, but that may be partially due to the way the heel cup fits my heel so perfectly.

I am not going to keep the shoes though, after less than a week of climbing the sole already has a hole in it, possibly due to granit climbing done over the weekend, or the gym midweek, or evolv used shitty rubber on this particular pair. Good thing R E I has a great return policy!

Perfect 5 out of 5 stars

I love these shoes. I have a slightly wider foot and they seem to be made for me. The heel almost feels like it suctions to your foot. I like that the synthetic leather doesn't stretch, the fit you feel in the store is what you will always have.
Great toe power and awesome edging. I highly recommend you try these on.

Low sensitivity 3 out of 5 stars

I bought these shoes on sale from REI after owning the defys. I bought a half size smaller than my defys (=size 8)and found the fit to be appropriate for a sport/bouldering shoe(my street size is about a 10-10.5). When I first slipped them on at the gym they seemed reluctant to fit comfortably in the toes, but after an hour or so of climbing the rubber on the top of the toe seemed to become more flexible and comfy. I gave them 3 stars for my application due to the thick rubber in the toe section of the sole that sacrafices a bit of sensitivity when trying to locate/stand on small chips. The heel however allows aggressive heel hooks and massive comfort in the arch and heel protion of the shoe. All in all the Evo is a good shoe, mabe not the 5 out 5 i was looking for though.
