Best Shoe ever made 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: jdhonhol, 2013-09-18

I understand that everyone's foot is different. I honestly feel bad for the people who can't get a good fit with this shoe because it has significantly improved my footwork. I am not one to attribute success to the gear I use, but I would be lying to myself if I didn't give La Sportiva some credit. I have had a lot more successful climbs because of this shoe. It is expensive, but it is worth every penny if you are seriously trying to get better.

Buy them Tight-er 4 out of 5 stars

First off, these are absolutely incredible shoes. Despite the aggressive down turned toe, these shoes are remarkably comfy. However, after climbing on them for a couple of months (5 times a week) I have noticed that they have stretched a little more than half a size. I initially bought them smaller than I normally would have because of the flexible sole, but I should have gone a full size and a half lower than full soled bottoms. Aside from that I would highly recommend this shoe for bouldering. As a side note, I have noticed that the shoe is pretty good for smearing as the sole is pretty thin and I prefer the rubber over 5.10's and scarpas.

Hide the damn seams 2 out of 5 stars

I had high hopes for these shoes and initially, they delivered. The fit is like nothing else, the climbing is incredible, and you feel like you have talons on your foot. Rubber pales in comparison to 5.10's but the shoes were definitely a step up from my retired predators.

After an hour or two though, a painful problem becomes apparent when you want to take off your show. Sportiva did not hide the seams of the heel straps or the weird velcro lace by your toe. The heel straps dig into my heel and the left velcro lace ending digs into the top of my foot. and its especially painful when takign the shoes off, being that they fit like a glove.

These shoes would be amazing was it not for this very stupid error sportiva only seems to have made on this shoe.

Excellent bouldering shoe 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: ajn, 2009-07-31

I bought this shoe after retiring my Mammut Goblins. I needed improved heel and toe hooking performance. My choices were either the Miura VS, Millet Replikan and the Solutions. Miura VS felt more like an overall climbing shoe. The Replikan didn't fit me properly. The Solutions felt like no other shoe I've fitted to date: the initial feeling was that I have rubber socks on my feet. The fit was super-tight but comfortable. Whereas other climbing shoes squeeze some of your toes, these squeeze all of them, quite uniformly. The bouldering performance is awesome, but these are not, in my opinion, suited for slabs. They are too downturned for smearing, and the bottom shape offers too little friction for it anyway. My rating is based entirely on the bouldering performance, since that's what this shoe is designed for. As a more all-around shoe, I'd recommend the Miura VS. Note about the sizes: I have (EU) size 40 Miuras, 40 Miura VSs (fitted at the shop), but size 39 Solutions.
