My go to Cam 5 out of 5 stars

Review by: renlad, 2007-10-09

This is my go to cam. They're always at the front of the my rack. I have two red ones, and when I'm pumped out and need to get something in, they always come through. Best money I ever spent. I don't see a need for the yellow because the range over laps. I'd like to see a smaller one and a much larger. I could really lighten my load knowing I would only need 6 or 7 of these to make it to the top.

missing link? 3 out of 5 stars

These cams, as already noted, are pretty sweet. They have an obvious advantage in range, and a clear handicap in weight and price. But what I'm wondering is, why make two sizes that overlap so much? I think that the climbing community would have been much more impressed had OP made the #2 much bigger, say about the size of a #3 camalot. I don't know what OP is planning as far as expanding the Link Cam franchise, but I would like to see these "missing links" in the shops sooner rather than later. The #2 link cam that I own gets a fair amount of use, but I must admit, it was mostly novelty placements for a while. I usually stick to my other cams and hexes when climbing and honestly, the Link Cam spends much of it's time at home. Don't get me wrong, if I was climbing somewhere new, and I didn't know what to expect, I'd bring it along for sure, no questions asked. But I just can't seem to justify bringing it along when I can get the same job done with the other stuff I've already got. All the moving parts make me a little uneasy. I'm giving it a 3 because I think the design is superb, but they should have expaned the size range beyond just the #1 and #2, as well as the weight and price penalty you get for owning these cams.

On demand peace of mind 5 out of 5 stars

I picked up a #1 link cam as an oh-shit piece. I've placed it on a couple of sport routes where a fall between bolts could have resulted in a nasty pendulum. So far I've had no problems finding a placement for it thanks to the extended range. When I start seriously building my rack I plan on having duplicates of each size of link, and I can't wait until OP comes out with more sizes.

Best Cams ever! 5 out of 5 stars

I truley love these cams. They don't walk. They are sooooo veristile that htey go on my rack no matter what I am climbing. I have placed both my #1 & #2 a dozen or so times since I first invested in them. I have not had any mechanical failure with them nor needed any more than basic maintenance.
Best cams I ahve ever bought. God I hope they get some more sizes.

Still solid after a year + of moderate use. I love this cam even though it is a bit heavy, I now own both sizes. It is always on the rack and is a great addition.
