As far as velcro shoes goes the Katana is definately a winner. The opposing velcro straps are the key ingredient that makes the fit absolutely great. Climbing rubber is climbing rubber, really, it is. Comparing it is like comparing chalk...Great Sportiva quality, great design, great shoe. As mentioned before, they are lined and as a result they do not stretch so much as they conform to your foot. They aren't as aggressive as say, the Venoms or Miuras, but they do hold up well on steep routes/problems. Best velcro shoe on the market.

sweeeet! good control without major pain. nice and snug on my feet without cutting circulation. good solid heel-hooking- the sole rubber extends right up the heel. good edging and I can feel the rock under my feet while having a stable platform to stand on- super strong foot muscles not required. Mine haven't stretched much, if at all, more moulded somewhat to the shape of my feet. I have a longer 2nd toe and these shoes are fine for me. I love them on anything except cracks, I use a lace-up(mythos) for that type of climbing. compare with barracudas, apparently the same last.

What an awesoem slipper. I use these more than any other shoe. The velcro is just as good as laces, only faster. With enough foot strength, you can edge with these like any other shoe. They are ultra sensitive and great for smearing if you don't wear them too small. The do stretch a significant amount. I wear size 11 street shoes and by size 9 Katanas. It's painful breaking them in, but get them wet and it helps teh process.

Ever since I bought these shoes, I'm able to climb harder routs. I love the way they edge, stick to every rock. Ok, so the pair I had before was too big for me, but still... great difference. The price I got them for was unbeatable, too: 83 Euros. I bought them at "Hudy's" in Czech Republic.
The reason why I bought them is a climbing shoe review in a German climbing magazine. The Katana's were recomended out of 10 velcros. These are the rates they gave the shoe in different categories (5 = highest score):
