Bought one for cheap just to see what it was all about. I'd only carry it for aid. The stiff titanium triggerwire gave me the willies, and so I replaced it with a soft wire. That lets the cam pivot a bit on the stem. Still looks home made and scary. Oh well.

It took me a while to find a place where these cams worked well, I played with them on limestone and quartzite but i refused to use them on those rock types after tring them, but on the North shore of lake Superior at Carlton peak, I can't remember the rock type but its formations resemble granite, they fit very well in these cracks and I think they will work just as well in granite but i havent tried it yet

These things are nice to have in some situations, but I would not say that it's a essential piece of gear. They're mainly useful for funky aid placements. I definately wouldn't want to be messing with the funky trigger setup trying to slam in a piece on some desparate free climb. Because the lobes are directly opposed, they don't need to be entirely in contact with the rock to work. I used the yellow in a placement where only about 1/3 of the lobes were actually touching rock and it held body weight just fine. There's a lot of other gear I wish I had bought first though.

I bought all the 2 cams units. I used them for trad climbing. After setting them several times I did not feel comfortable using them and did not want to take a fall on them. I can not tell you why I felt that way. I did find that they did not have a very smooth camming action. They also seemed not very sturdy with the two wires set up and the trigger. I will stick to my TCU.

Great cam for slots or small pockets because of the directly opposing lobes. They are unbeatable for the price and can be used as passive protection also!
