The Newton is a good all day trad shoe. It's very supportive and comfortable, edges well and smears OK. However, after having worn these over the course of one climbing season, I was somewhat dissapointed with their durability. I had problems with delamination of the rand on the toe as well as on the sides of the shoe. I expect better durability out of a $150 pair of shoes. Also - dear God in heaven, these things REEK. None of my leather upper shoes smell anywhere near as bad as these things.

I got these shoes hoping to use them as a comfortable alternative to my Miuras. I tried them on at the store, really liked them at first but found that what they had in comfort, they lacked in performance. They lack a certain amount of precision that is really noticeable when you switch from Miuras to these. I'm sure they would make good shoes for long, multi-pitch climbs, but they weren't what I was looking for. I guess my biggest complaint would be their incredible smell. After wearing them only a couple times they started to smell like no shoe i've ever seen before. A friend of mine got the same shoes and had the exact same problem...really annoying. My conclusion: a) if you're looking for a performance shoe definetly don't get these. b) for the price/performance/comfort ratio, i really think there are better shoes on the market. c) they seriously rival the neighborhood skunks
