need new shoes
Review by: emilylimaye, 2008-11-24
I have loved my katanas and finally wore them out last weekend in a comp. Im looking to get a new pair of shoes, somthing a little aggressive for bouldering. My only complaint about the Katanas was the fit of the heel which always felt a little big and was tough to get hard heels hook with. Does anyone have any recommendations for something else to try. I am looking at scarpas...

I just burned through my first pair of Katanas. I wore the shoe in the gym most of the time, but took it outside on quite a few trips. I wear a size 8.5 or 9 street shoe, usually size 40 euro and I got the Katanas in a 38.5. They were really tight when I first got them and I couldn't keep them on for more than a few minutes, but I'm glad I didn't get them any bigger. They aren't supposed to stretch much because they are lined, but mine did, or at least molded to my foot.
These shoes edge really well, and the rubber is sticky enough. Mine are to the point now were the edging sucks because I've worn the shoe down so much. If your footwork is not quiet, you will burn through the rubber pretty quickly, especially in the gym. I find that to be the case with La Sportiva shoes, even though the fit is awesome. I am stretching out a new pair of 5.10 Primas at my desk now for the gym and plan to get my Katanas resoled to use for hard gym routes and outside only.

Well i needed a new pair of shoes back around new years, even thoe i was extremely happy with my barracuda's and just wanted another pair of them, i decided to try some other shoes, more specifically womens shoes because my feet are rather narrow and i have a flat heal, which always became a bit of problem when heel hooking when wearing shoes made around the men's katana last, as i wouldnt get a good solid feeling as the top of the shoe would cut into my heel while having a bit of moving room around the ball of my heel.
Anyways gave the Womens katana's a go, and i love them.
So for those guys out there that have narrower feet and a flatter heal like myself, who normally wear katana's or barracuda, i highly recommend giving the women's katana's a go.
But the sizing is a bit smaller by about 1/4 size compared to the mens version, just to let you know

Next to the La Sportiva Cobra, this is one of the best shoes I've owned yet. The rubber is high quality, the craftsmanship is superb and I am in love. It performed very well on granite slab, in the crack, and on micro-edges and crystals. A great all around quality shoe.
