well, they're heavy, hard to clip and not very strong. Plus the inescapable tendency to rotate.
In short there are better options out there for the non aid climber. I am personally replacing my ovals with Dovals with the exception of a few to use for Toprope anchors.

I like this oval. No matter everyone says...we all need an oval once in awhile, and this is my choice. Buy one and you'll see why.

For anchors? Yeah! For racking? If you're and ox. For Quickdraws? You're joking. BD's utility biner is heavy and difficult to clip but it serves a multitude of purposes and, perhaps because they're cheap, I guess every climber at some point has a few. Although they can hold a lot of gear for racking the snags that might occur with wired pro due to the notch where the gate catches is a problem. Get Petzl Owalls for this purpose, they are worth the extra cost with the their keynose.

Not the lightest or the strongest, but they serve thier purpose well. They're great for racking gear or setting up anchor cause they don't shift.
