Best. Locker. Ever.

The humongous gate opening made possible by the offset-swinging gate (the hinge pin is twisted so that the gate can swing beyond the point where it would otherwise hit the spine) is what sets this carabiner apart. There is nothing else that compares for belays -- at the power point, where you might be clove hitching rope to it, hanging an auto-blocking belay device (reverso, b-52, etc.), and unloading a bunch of stuff from your shoulders (pack, water, gear sling), you can oftentimes get away with one or two of these biners holding most everything.

The only drawback is that they're relatively heavy and the thick bar stock is too big for some holes (eg. a Grigri or some ascenders and older bolts). But for the meat-and-potatoes business of hanging things off an anchor these are unsurpassed and well worth the ~30g weight penalty.

If you have never investigated using this biner, I suggest that you give it a look next time you need to buy or replace a locker. Especially at the price (often further discounted by retailers), these are a tremendous offering.

Mine are all auto-lockers, but if you have a screwgate, you'll be happy to know that the DMM Belay Master clip works well with the Jake screwlock. The kind people at Nomad Ventures helped me experiment with various lockers since they sell the Belay Master piece separately ($7). If you already have a screwgate Jake for your belay biner, you should buy the DMM clip thing, it will prevent cross-loading and the irritating biner rotation that often occurs while belaying with ATC-style devices.

If Omega made a lighter version of this with a keylock screwgate, it would be perfect.

Absolutely love it! The offset gate really makes clipping easy.
