Review 4 out of 5 stars

Review by: danrauscher, 2004-02-03

I tried this shoe for some climbs and found it to be pretty good. As it is not mine, I can't say how it is in terms of how long it lasts.

However, it seemed to be a good shoe for what I was climbing. I was using a pair of Zens when I first started climbing, so I guess these shoes would be good beginner shoes.

The only problem I found was that it hurt my toes. I have relatively long toes, but you probably want to try these on, and maybe climb in them a little before buying. However, now that i've been climbing for a while, and my feet have gotten used to the asymetrical feel of shoes, the same pair of shoes doesn't bother me as much. Still not a pair I would wear for an extended period of time, but comfortable enough for a good bit of climbing. Also note that although i wear a 9.5 size climbing shoe with about every other shoe, I wear a size 11 Zen, and they are a tiny, tiny bit too small.

This is my 3rd pair of shoes (others were Diablos and Pyros), and they are my favorite so far! This is a great shoe for bouldering and sport climbing. Great edging!
Also, if you have wider feet I would recommend this shoe, it fits me perfect. The padded tounge is nice as well.
The only downside is that the rubber isn't as sticky as I would like it to be, but I've heard if you resole them in C4 they're perfect.
Hope this helps!

They are good shoes for the most part let me tell you why. first off they are slip lasted this method of construction produces shoes that are lightweight, flexible, and very sensitive. They are great for bouldering because of the rand covered toe so they can take some beating but they are a great all around shoe as well. The fusion 3 rubber sucks its not very sticky at all compared to the time it lasts. The older rubber they had was better, just get them resoled ASAP and they will be great. Also for being a canvas lined shoe they sure do stretch alot in the toe box, and if you have a small heel you will be sliding all over the place in the zens. They are a great shoe to get your feet wet in the sport.

Great shoes, the sole is semi-board lasted so as to give great edging power. The heel has a little room and they stretch a lot so make sure you size about 2 sizes down. They will stretch good so endure the pain in the beggining. Fusion rubber lasts forever, overall great bouldering and sport climbing shoe.

These shoes are very nice for bouldering and sport climbing. They stretch a lot, which surprised me for a lined shoe. That's why they get a 3. If I purchase another pair of these, they'll be a size and a half below my street shoe size. I loved them while they fit me, but they stretched and my heel slides all over and the toebox is really loose too which is pretty negative on edging.
