I bought this harness after discovering that while the Shield harness is the bomb for aid climbing, and even moderate free climbs with hanging belays (read: Crimson Chrysalis), it's not the best for long free routes due to its size.
The Astroman Harness is like a mini-Shield harness. Its waist belt is 4" instead of 5", the leg loops are 2 1/2" instead of 3 1/2", but it still has a rated haul loop, and it actually has more gear loops. It doesnt have a hammer holster, but I believe you can get one as an acessory.
It's easily the most comfortable and bomber harness I've ever worn. Hanging belays are hardly noticeable (although I wouldnt want to hang there for hours on end...I have the Shield for that), and the harness is small enough that it does not encumber movement on the wall. An excellent harness that does justice to the Yates name.
A crag harness this is not, this is a harness for long free routes, or big wall speed ascents. You certainly can sport climb in it, but it's overkill. (So, if you're a sport climber, I'd only rate this product at a 3, I gave it a 5 because it's perfect for its intended use.)
I guarantee this harness will make you a very happy trad leader!
