Nice Watch 4 out of 5 stars

Review by: chugar, 2009-05-17

Bought this one purely b/c it was on sale about 3 years ago. I've used this for hiking and backpacking.

Replaced the batteries twice in that time period. Altitude seems to have a 100-200ft deviation if you have an 8000 ft elevation change. I don't know how this compares to other watches but to me that's an ok deviation before recalibrating. Temp isn't weather temp if the watch is on your wrist (body heat) - otherwise the readings appeared to be consistent when comparing to other thermometers. 3 alarms which is nice. The face did get a few scratches.

I'm giving it 4 stars because I'm overall happy with it for rec use but the face did get a few scratches. If the face was scratch free, I'd give it a 5.

This shoe works well at the gym or on face. I've used it soley for about a year. The sole is pretty flexible and fits my feet comfortably. The only negative I have is that it didn't perform well on a offwidth crack. When jamming my feet in, the shoe would bend too much. But finger cracks are no problem. I am looking into getting a stiffer shoe for the bigger cracks.

First rope. Bought it in Oct. 2004 from gearexpress.com like everyone else. Will retire it during or after this summer. Dry treated still works and sheath is a little worn with age. I'm happy with it. I'll probably look at a bi-pattern replacement.

My friend bought this product and after watching boil 2 cups of water (the max) in about 90 seconds, I was almost convienced to get one myself.

However, we later decided to use it after a long day hike. The Jetboil was on a level table and somehow it got bumped and being top heavy, it fell over. The flames kept coming and started to burn the neoprene sleeve. And I'm not talking about smoldering flames either. It got enough attention that everyone on that table jumped up, as well as the adajacent table, and even the next table where a bunch of climbers were drinking!

Luckily, the top portion was not on fire and my buddy was able to twist off the fuel cannister by holding the cannister in one hand and the portion of the cup in the other. Apparently, the neoprene is a good insulator because my buddy didn't suffer any burns.

Yes, it was a human error - but I woud never take that thing out in the backcountry. After watching that fire show I pretty set on keeping my low center-of-gravity stove (MSR Dragonfly).
