The best tube-type belay device for skinny ropes. Amazingly light, and it locks up on thin (e.g. 8.4mm) ropes better than anything else I've used.

With double ropes, falls may be caught on only one strand. Big falls on one thin rope can be difficult to catch with a standard device. The ATC-XP is good for that. This is even better.

When I compared the cost of this kit vs. figuring out and buying correct wires & swages + a swager it was an easy decision. Other than maybe getting lucky on Ebay, I couldn't get a decent swager for any less than the kit.

The kit is pretty easy to use, at least for the Tech Friends I've done.

I haven't repaired Aliens. My kit came with tiny Alien wires & swages. I think they tell you in the instructions to use pliers instead of their swager with those tiny swages.

These are outstanding cams. Much lighter than the previous generation Camalot. Sizes 3 and above are still a little heavier than Tech Friends, but #2 is very close (it feels the same weight). They're easy to handle, and the range is great.

Seems to offer good protection. Points for style too. On the heavy side, although they have a lighter model without the foam lining.

Still my favorite.

Light enough, cool, and far more comfortable than lighter bike-helmet style climb helmets.

The quick adjustment wheel allows you to quickly put a hood or helmet liner under it to keep warm.

The headlamp clips work really well.
