Jamie Chong on Permanent Waves

Jamie Chong on Permanent Waves

Here's Jamie nearing the crux of permanent waves, 13c. This is one of the most spectacular looking routes around, and has some amazing climbing on it. More photos can be found in the gallery section on my website.

Not only is the route chipped, you are also obliged to climb part way up a tree to get to the climb. The route's 'creator' delimbed the tree for this purpose, and hammered a number of spikes on either side of the trunk to facilitate one’s passage. Sort of like making one’s way up a telephone pole. The crux is definitely chipped, but this is nothing out of sorts for the fellow responsible for this route: Jim-hammer and pot o’ glue-Sandford. Still, it is a far cry from the routes just out of shot and to the right of this picture. Those routes are completely manufactured, with a number of deftly drilled pockets and jugs.
