Karen at Gushi

Karen at Gushi

Karen on a fun problem. The holds are all good, but sharp. This one starts off with a short traverse that is off to the left of the roof, after the traverse you work you way into the roof.

The rock there is sharp and does a number on your hands. That problem has become pretty polished and is one of the less sharp

Yes, its coral, petrified coral. But dont call it that to the locals. By definition its Ryukyu Limestone. I dont use my climbing shoes most of the time, the rock is coarse enough I just use my Nike ACG "approach" shoes. And its actually fun to climb. On Okinawa you dont have too much of a choice. Very few of the exposed faces are sandstone. By far the majority is coral, aka limestone.

I thought this was a great place to escape to on days when no climbing partner was available. The "rock" is sharp but the area is a playground with so many problems. I spent hours down there. The only problem is your skin usually wears out before your muscles do. Highly recommend visiting here.
