Oposicao do Urubú

Oposicao do Urubú

Mineiro climbs 'oposicão do urubú' (brazilian 6 sup) a classic boulder in one of Rio de Janeiro's most classic climbing spot. As far as this is my first shot on this site, comments will be very appreciated.

Thanks everybody who has voted! As far as 5 votes graded avegare 7.20, to me thats very nice to have a 70% success on my first submitted shot.
There will be some more to come, I'm just starting in digital photography and climbing is some kind of subject I love.

Color and composition are excellent. Conveys a real sense of dynamic action (good timing). Love the silhouette effect...

It's a poster! It's a photograph! Far more effective like this with pure black and sky.

Nice shot. I think I might of climbed this. Isn't there a route (about 5.11a) that continues up the arete? Or I am thinking about a different place on the boulder?

Awesome silhouette. For your first shot, I'd say you merit a 10. (But I'm a sucker for these types of shots.)

Rad! I like how, rather than a 'straight' silhouette, some detail is preserved in the climber and the rock. Also, the exposure seems to be spot on -- this is a technically impressive (and viscerally catchy) shot, which I would be proud to have taken. Just different enough to be original, while leveraging a tried-and-true compositional tactic... to great effect (IMHO). Also, I appreciate the large size of the image!

Hi everybody!! Lots of comments, Thank you very much, thats all I wanted.

I also love silhouette xclimber, if fact most of the time I can just photograph at dawn (like this shot) and silhouetes are very common on my shots.

Yes, yanqui there are some routes that continue from the end of this 'boulder', like Normal(5.5), Mestre(5.12c), Urubú que voa(5.12c), Puro Sangue(5.11d) and Sangue de Adolph Hitler(5.10d). Theres also urubu Arete, not exactly on this same side of the rock, but on the same rock: aresta do urubu(5.12b).

yorb, I tried cropping the original shot, but in facl I liked it most "full frame", like shown here. In my opinion I found showing some quiet fisherman while Mineiro (the climber) is totally commited to the climb is very interesting...

Will anybody visit this page: http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v294/_marcelo_/escalada/ and suggest me another pic to be published on rockclimbing.com ?

Thanks everybody. You really can't imagine how much you are encouraging me to continue what I'm loving to do(climb photography).

Of course you can do something about it. That person would be very easy to clone out. Anyway, since you ask for comments, I'll say: I am a tough audience with silhouettes. I don't like most of them and am very picky. When taking silhouettes, I think it is imperative that the outline of the subject not be muddled in any way. Here, you have the guy's arm blocking his head. If his head were thrown back in such a way that we could see the whole outline of the head without any arm in front of it, it'd be a good silhouette. Right now, it is close, but no cigar. Hence, a 7. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

climbsomething, maybe your 'silhouette theory' convinced me in some way and I never thought before about that matter in that way you explained. Thanks a lot, I'll keep on learning and that was great knowledge... ... as I said before, I'm a very begginer and any comments are very welcome.
