Unknown climber near 1st Pleasant O's belay
Superted and I were heading up Pleasant O's, and ran into some trouble and got off-route on some 10b. We were moving slow, and let another party pass us. This is some guy from Boston coming out of the 10b roof, and traversing over to the Pleasent O's belay to join us. This was going to be our first Seneca 5.7. We lead dirty old man first, to boost our confidence, and then we headed over for this climb. We'd both only been leading for a few months, and that offroute bussiness on the 10 left us pretty frazzled. We bailed with plans to finish the job the next weekend.

Ah Seneca. Sounds like you had a typical getting to know Seneca lead climbing lesson.
...and finish it we did. My absolute favorite climb there so far. That roof traverse pitch was incredible, not to mention the airy belay at the end. The guy in the picture's name is Chris. Cool guy. He's guiding at the Gendarme now.

That picture sure looks like Direct Toe (imho, a very stout 10b if you're not tall). The gear getting over the overhanging layback is difficult. When I lead it, and never will again, there was a fixed #5 nut. Damn, was I glad it was there. This climb is all slope-y and water-washed. It's where the water comes off the P.O. roof. It's also slippery as snot. Howard Doyle had the 1st free ascent. I'm still amazed at Mr. Doyle's abilities. May you rest in peace. Anyway, back to P.O. If you liked the 2nd pitch, you'll love the exposure on the 3rd.
