Summer Approach in Sneakers

Summer Approach in Sneakers

Here i was (taking the picture) hiking next to a friend (the radical alpinism master Stuart Ryan) of mine, mid May in sneakers and shorts. Little did i know that i would be hiking in snow that was up to 4 feet deep for about an hour. But still it was a fun experience. Swollen ankles from the snow and ice lodged in my shoe but luckily i was able to sit on a rock barefoot when not climbing and use my friends boots when on belay. Afterwards the only reasonable thing to do seemed to be to sprint down the mountain and slip hundreds of times all over ice, and fall off of lots of little ledges (steep mountain!) since there was no trail. Oh well. Good stuff. Moral of the story: Find out the weather at your destination and bring proper footwear. (The shorts and t-shirt were alright; mad sunburn!)
