Aerial view of Texas Canyon

Texas Canyon is mainly comprised of two conglomerate formations that form a N-S corridor. The most prominent formation is centered in this photo and has an aircraft shadow on the peak. This rock has been referred to as cave rock and the cave can be seen at the formation base below the shadow. The approach is in the lower right and leads past the cave. The corridor has most of the quality climbing with the east (cave rock) side having mostly 5.6-9 routes and the west face having 5.10-11 routes, some of which require a full 60m rope. The “egg” can be seen on the extreme left of the image, has 5.11+ routes and is extremely chossy. The south face of cave rock has multiple 5.8-9 routes some of which have run-out second pitches. Climbs on the north face of cave rock do exist but are typically very loose and/or have poor/worn-out protection. Photo - Bob Langberg. Pilot – Brian Hershberger
