Climbing the Weeping Wall

Climbing the Weeping Wall (view)

This shot was taken at around 7:00am of The Weeping Wall in the Canadian Rockies after having camped at the side of the road that night. We were the only climbers on the ice in the morning and storm clouds surrounded us with a patch of blue sky above. It made us feel quite remote and lucky to have this popular venue all to ourselves. The route was covered in snow, which made it difficult to place an ice axe and trust it. Much of the work involved clearing soft snow above and bashing away old compacted snow to get to the good ice. It was done in 4 pitches, although it could have gone at 3.
