this is the complete sequence of a top rope fall on ice at the ouray ice park. this sequence puts the fall in context and makes it much easier to visualize than the last pic of it i posted. the chunk of ice that struck eric was estimated at about 400 lbs. and it almost claimed the belayer as well.
everyone survived the incident and it served as a nice reminder about the hazards of ice climbing. the entire sequence represents less than 1.5 seconds of real time.

just below the upper bridge at ouray ice park there is a little mixed route. sorry im a slacker and can't remember the name. Erica was picking at some ice just above some bare rock when he fell, the rope caught a nice chunk of ice and pulled it down on top of him..
i have 4 shots that show the whole sequence of events and will post them if there is interest.

very near Ouray is a little traveled area know as Skylight. Here is Erica (we like to call him fat Eric) leading Chopo's Chimney, 160' WI4.
The chimney was really thin and mixed at the top, and a great time was had by all that day @ Skylight. we didn't see another climber there the entire day.
i know this is a buttshot, but the action in the scene and the lighting make it an ok pic anyway.

My friend and climbing mentor, Jon Jaecks on a nifty little mixed problem just below the lower bridge at Ouray.
It was Jon's first day trying the leashless tools!
