Do you trust small gear?

Average Rating = 4.30/5 Do you trust small gear?

Tit For Tat (24 or 5.11d) is a trad classic of Mt Stuart in North Queensland. The angle is steep, and the gear is universally small, relying mostly on small wires, RP's and small aliens. The crux involves a balancy yet powerful layoff move on a tiny crimp with a #2 RP at your feet. At least one climber has snapped an RP here during the fall.

Here on the onsight attempt we see Aaron desperately trying to get into a position where he can actually place some gear!

Sammi's first lead climb, Flat Battery (13 - 5.5) on the Lower Cliffs of Mt Ngungun. Looking composed as ever, while apparently feeling scared as hell! Photo: L Skidmore, Sony Mavica FD-88.

Average Rating = 3.12/5 Beaten faces on the Direct North Buttress

Ground level in the Valley, it's serene and sunny, but as the wind sinks its vicious teeth into us, we bail from seven pitches up on the DNB (5.10b), Middle Cathedral Rock. Photo: L Skidmore, Sony digital.

A gecko amongst the stones

Average Rating = 3.85/5 A gecko amongst the stones

Yosemite bouldering was best described as "jerking off in a whorehouse". Marten snakes his way up through dappled sunlight on one of the little pebbles. Photo: Lee Skidmore, Sony Mavica FD-88.

Marcel on Zodiac, reaching for a rivet

Average Rating = 4.00/5 Marcel on Zodiac, reaching for a rivet

Those uninitiated might have a hard time grasping that this is only pitch one of sixteen. With the bulk of the wall looming over us, we definitely felt the pinch. We would top out about 75 hours later. Photo: Lee Skidmore, Sony Mavica FD-88.

Marcel catching up on a little light reading on Zodiac

Average Rating = 4.25/5 Marcel catching up on a little light reading on Zodiac

"Fast Food Nation" was a great book to have on the wall. We learnt why Americans are fat. Of course the downside to this is that the book discusses food, and for four days straight, that was all we could think of. Photo: Lee Skidmore, Sony Mavica FD-88.
