Taken one evening at Helsby on the Upper Tier. I think the route is called The Mangler and takes the roof crack right of the climber. Around British 6a.

A shot of the wall above the racecourse in Chester. Useful to while away a few minutes if stuck in Chester. Don't go on race days as they won't let you on !!

Another (unknown) climber took this shot, with my camera, of Mary pulling round the nose on Demo Route, an 80ft Severe at Sennen Cove. (I was belaying) I just remember it as a superb day, on good rock with a good friend.

Lame name for a peak (S09) but this was our ninth summit. The temperature was dropping rapidly. We later were caught in a storm on the glacier in the background for three days. We resorted to reading the GPS manual after passsing round all the books we had.
Have a look at another of my photos "Russ attempting unnamed peak" and this peak is the one in the middle distance in that shot (if you see what I mean)

The peak in the background we called S09 (Our ninth summit). As we attempted this next peak, the temperature plummeted so we aborted soon after this shot. The next day we moved down on to the glacier in the background and sat out a storm for three days.

Another classic climb on this superb cliff. Mary had only been climbing a few months. The face is as steep as it looks. There are many superb routes at Bozigran in a superb location with a great pub near the top.

In 1980 we did a big tour of the Alps visiting France, Italy, Austria etc. We took a quick walk up to Mer de Glace and played on the glacier. The only way back was to jump this crevace ... honest !

Me - I got the last pitch on this first ascent. As I pulled up the last few feet I saw sky, peaks, glacier and a steep slope the other side of the route. A fantastic day. Photo taken by Al Read

Al Read on RHARPeak (Our name) summit (~2200m). The small speck on the glacier below is our tents in a walled enclosure about 1000m below us. We could hear members of the party talking down on the glacier such is the silence. All the peaks in the background are unclimbed but a good hours ski across the glacier.

Unknown climbers on Satan's Slip on the fantastic Devils Slide area on Lundy. On this island with over 700 routes we only saw one other group of climbers in a week. Lundy is a fantastic place to visit/climb. Good beer in the tavern and very friendly locals.
