Thin ice

Average Rating = 4.00/5 Thin ice

I really didn't believe you can climb ice 3 mm thick, until I got on this stuff. If you don't move your feet at ALL, scrape your picks in and pre-weight them, you can do pretty well! nuts.

Days of Future Passed, AZ

Average Rating = 3.00/5 Days of Future Passed, AZ

This photo is from Feb, 2001, taken by Rob of Massachusetts. I had this black outfit I used to wear while winter climbing in AZ. Usually it was too thin for the shade and boiling in the sun. Days is a classic 3 pitch climb on End Pinnacle in the East Stronghold

The salathe roof

Average Rating = 3.50/5 The salathe roof

Here I'm leading the roof just as light fades. As fate would have it, we didn't get to Long ledge until 3am. I spent 6 hours at the hanging belay in the middle of the headwall. The roof looks so small from sous le toit!

wake up to a flared chimney

Average Rating = 3.00/5 wake up to a flared chimney

Here I'm leading the flaring chimney off of hollow flake ledge on the Salathe' Wall. june 2002. Like a moron I didn't stop at the belay and had to stop in the middle of the next pitch.

the luxurious lung ledg

Average Rating = 3.00/5 the luxurious lung ledg

Early morning on lung ledge, june 2002. Cody led hollow flake in the dark the night before, and rapped back to the ledge. At least we don't have to wake up to that.

pitch off el cap tower

Average Rating = 2.50/5 pitch off el cap tower

I'm aiding off el cap tower early in the morning on the salathe' wall. Any delusions of freeing this 1.5 inch pitch faded long ago through hauling and carrying a huge rack.

peanuts on el cap tower

Average Rating = 3.00/5 peanuts on el cap tower

this photo reminds me of the climbing ad campaign a while back that went something like "through adversity...." salty peanuts weren't all that appealing, tho, with too little water in the bags

serge following friction

Average Rating = 3.00/5 serge following friction

First day of the Salathe' wall june 2002. like idiots, we forgot our hauling ropes on the ground while shuffling the bags up to heart ledge, so we had to carry them on the freeblast. Here you can see the whole el cap above you.

on el cap tower

Average Rating = 2.50/5 on el cap tower

one of the coolest things about climbing el cap is the changing perspective of cathedral rock below. This rock is so huge, yet looks small a couple of days up el cap.

sous le toit ledge

Average Rating = 3.75/5 sous le toit ledge

One of the most incredible views off the Salathe' is off of the tiny Sous le Toit ledge. God, I wouldn't want to sleep on this ledge. Maybe alone after 12 hours of climbing or something.
