4 Wheel Drive Recommended

Average Rating = 0.00/5 4 Wheel Drive Recommended

Its likely NOT a coincidence that until now, there has been no Pleasant Valley section in the RDB. The first sign we saw on the Berdoo Canyon Road read "Road Not Maintained." Fair enough, they re still calling it a road. We continue on to find this sign, "4 Wheel Drive Recommended". Bah. Its just a wee little gravel road - they just put that sign up to scare off dumb tourists who think they can get through an unmaintained road with their sedan. Even if it doesnt, surely the next sign they see will - "Enter at own risk" - will. We continue on in the Dodge Neon. What?! its a rental car!!

If I was to make a list of things that I wanted to see and accomplish on this last trip to Joshua Tree, taking a Neon down a "enter at own risk" 4x4 trail at sundown was probably the last thing I could have come up with. Not recommended.

Machete and I prematurely step into our "badass" poses. If only we knew what was to come in the next 6 hours....

Dr Milne on Vinson Masiff

Average Rating = 0.00/5 Dr Milne on Vinson Masiff

Although I didnt work directly with Dr. Rob Milne much during my time at his intelligent applications company in Livingston, I did have the pleasure of meeting him and some after-hours chats about climbing and mountaineering..
In June 2005, he died attempting Everest, the 7th and final peak on his goal of climbing the seven summits. He was working on IM-PACs, a system aimed towards more effective communications for mountaineers..

Here is a photo of Rob on the summit of Vinson Masiff in the Ellsworth Range, the highest peak on Antarctica, with the company flag (intentionally blurred) on January 13, 2004...
RIP mate..

The New River Gorge Bridge

Average Rating = 3.43/5 The New River Gorge Bridge

Normally, I like to rap down really fast. And why not? But this time I had to stop and take my time and admire the (until recently) Largest Arch Bridge in the world. Before it's construction was completed in 1978, vehicles had to drive down a very narrow and windy road to cross the New River Gorge.
