Crazy Sky on Lamb's SlideThis was my first ice climb. Tim (pictured) was basically guiding me up this. We were gonna do Kiener's, but a late start combined with fresh snow on the route meant we ended up going all the way back down Lamb's Slide.

Desperate Trad Climbers45 degrees and raining... 2.5 mile approach hike. Sketchy Aid climbing. This is what it's like to be a trad climber in the DC area in the middle of winter.

Sketchy PitonThis came out with a tug on the aiders after I clipped it. I ended up not doing the "A1" line out the roof. From the ground it looks like it would take small gear, but you'd basically have to rely on old pins like this to do the climb. Unless of course you are willing to pound your own iron, but I'm not.

The VanFunny story... When we went to get our rental car they had run out of cars. They were very apologetic about only having 12 passenger vans left. They were soooo sorry that they gave me a free tank of gas.

My Trad DrawsThis is what I carry with me on trad climbs for draws. Sometimes I don't carry all of them. There are a total of 10 trad draws and one quickdraw. The last three trad draws are distinct so as to serve as "gas lights" to tell me I should start looking for an anchor.

Winter on Mt. MarcyThis was the scene as I was climbing the last 200 feet or so in December of 2002. Mt. Marcy is the highest peak in the Adirondacks (NY), but a fairly easy walk up. By the time I got to the top, the clouds had socked in and I couldn't see a damn thing.
