Description:

This route, and variations of it, are probably the most well traveled at Index. Start at "The Poor Tree" (it used to have a friend) fight the urge to hand traverse out the sickle crack that gives this route it's name. Instead make a balancy foot traverse to the vertical section and up to, and right, around instead of straight through (very expoesed feeling but easily protected), the busted block that gave the route it's original name and grade of 5.9, but recent guide books show the right hand variation (formerly known as the chicken variation) as the route, so rather than try to turn back time I will follow suit. From here many variations are possible but most go up and left to join Pisces above the 5.10a crack and on past the chains to the tree.

Fun climb. Decided to hit it on the way down from Great Northern Slab.

5 out of 5 stars *

The 5.9 crux, while short is Killer, either OW style or boulder problem.

Worth traveling to index to warm-up on this for other killer routes!

0 out of 5 stars Ascent Note

I did the hand traverse ... I think I'll have to go back and try it with the feet.
