Description:

Starts about 50' left of Body Surfin' left of a chimney. Lots of good holds all the way. The vertical crack at the base, giving the name, is a more difficult trad variation, with that crack as the crux. The usual top-rope line is between there and the arete.

2 out of 5 stars Short but ok

If there wasn't two climbs here I wouldn't have set up here.

2 out of 5 stars scarface

pretty easy, lots of holds. did it first try on TR after watching a couple people flailing on the first 10 feet, I know, nbd, but I did the 5.7 variation at the beginning to the left.

2 out of 5 stars dubious gear

Did this trad but wasn't real pleased with the results. Easy onsight with a billion holds but the placements were kind of ho-hum. I used some tiny cams a nut and a BD #2 at the top. Probably ok for a mock-lead but wouldn't really have wanted to fall on the gear I did get. Too much crappy rock at Pilot. I think the "sharp ladder" description sounded pretty apt. Just be careful that the pieces don't break off in your hands!

Still, probably an ok spot to take up some beginners. It has anchor bolts but no rap rings.
