Description:

This is the monolithic North Facing aspect of Timbertop Mesa. Most of the route is visible from the Kolob Scenic Drive, it rises up the continuous, smooth wall left of the prominent "nose" that divides the North side of Timbertop. Approach: Take the Lee Pass Trail until its intersection with the South Fork of Timber Creek, below Shuntavi Butte (about 1 mile). Hike up the creek, below the N Face of Shuntavi Butte and Timbertop Mesa. Stay in the bottom of the drainage until you are past the start of the route, then hike up through a short section of dense scrub oak which should open to a wooded ridge gaining exposed slabs that lead to the route's base. Plan on 2 hours for the first attempt, though it has been done in one hour with practice. The route has been freed, but it is a great aid route. See topo for pith-by-pitch beta. Descent: The route is equipped to rap, but it would be prudent to have a bolt kit along. Alternatively, the original descent hiked from the topout, 300 yards to the East, making several rappels to intersect the "Mormon Route".
