I did this climb in 1983. This was the second, or third climb I did in the Valley. I later did it again to go check out the Cobra. I was one of the last climbers to do the ultra-classic Rotten Log pitch. About a week after doing the route, I heard another climber "bragging" in Camp 4 about how he had jumped and bounced on the log while seconding it until it cracked, and then trundled it. This would have been approximately late August 1983. And you thought pitons were bad for established climbs.

I did this route twice in 1983. It was the first climb I did in the Valley. Terry Tupper led it in March, and I seconded it in Adidas Rod Laver tennis shoes. Two months later, I lead it for for Terry and he was spooked at how little pro I'd used. This is a great hand crack climb, and is close enough to the road or bus stop that you can fire it off after doing your other climb that day.

I did this route in the summer of 1984. After being on the couch since the previous September, this was the first climb I did upon returning to the Valley. It was a bit strenuous for me, given my lack of fitness. The only hard part was finding the descent as dusk approached. Luckily, we met up with another party that had gone too far past the gully, and come back just as be got there. I think the descent trail is better marked now. I read somewhere that someone had scratched a big arrow into the cliff.

I did this climb three times in 1983 and once in 1984. It's a pretty good route, and I would recommend the 5.9 Bridwell Fingercrack variation to the first pitch. The mantle is not mandatory, and has a PG-13 landing if you blow it.

I did this climb in the summer of 1983. We started in the afternoon. I was really slow and spooked just following the slabby face. By the time we reached the stemming crack, my partner had to haul me up with the rope to save time.

I free soloed this in the summer of 1983. I had to use a short piece of 9mm to protect a scary, 30' section about two-thirds of the way up. The hardest part was standing on the very summit and not swooning to the deck.
