4 out of 5 stars trust the feet Luke, it's a smear climb up top

not a difficult climb, but it plays head games with novices and early leaders because of it's smooth top with no jugs to comfort the weary. trust the feet on the polished limestone and make the move, you'll be there before you know it. I'd give it a 5.8+ on the rating or a 5.9-, although that's getting a little generous. the 3 face climbs will teach you to get your butt out and climb with your legs/feet, not hands.

5 out of 5 stars sweet and fun climb

get your hands on the sideways anvil, step up on point of ledge, reach high with the left hand, and step on the top of the anvil with the right foot... finish hand over hand inside the giant flake up to the anchors. Warn the first timers on top rope about keeping the feet spread out when falling after they chicken out on the little roof... I've seen many spin off the roof onto the slab on the right - good to leave a directional for top ropers.

3 out of 5 stars slimy, greasy, slick, and keeps you focused

all the dark areas are greasy especially if it's humid out. You can use the hand jamming technique, but it's really not necessary. Be sure to get off the shelf near the top and head all the way up to the chains on some nice crimps rather than just placing the gear overhead while on the shelf - it adds a couple of nice moves to the short climb.

4 out of 5 stars finally led it...

2007 SEP 18: Finally lead this short but sweet route - fun, fun, fun...

Spring 2008: started down climbing with the rope still on chains.

August 2008: now I'm leading the climb and then I turn around and down-lead climb (clean from top to bottom including the chains) this so that I finish exactly as I started, with the rope on nothing but my harness and the belayer. Try it, it's a blast.

Oct 2008: I'm now climbing with my eyes closed on TR. I perfectly simulated a blind lead on a very loose TR, placed all gear and rope as I went up. Next is a blind lead. :^)

3 out of 5 stars fun crack with a start to make you think

for a 5.6 route, this one will make you pause and think about the start. get off like it's a 5.6 in your mind and you'll soon have your feet on the ground again... always gets the climbers who don't respect it.

3 out of 5 stars Hey ascenters, this is a TR climb!

Interesting that some of you have led this... it's a top rope only climb right of Hoover Head, not a bolted sport or trad. I guess we have some free solo climbers here. ;)
Fun thin climbing up somewhat of an angle

2 out of 5 stars nasty time getting to the chains cleanly

stay out of the crack for some nicely thin crimpers. the top is thin when you go to clip into the chains cleanly. heck of a time getting both draws on and rope up with thin fingers.

3 out of 5 stars one main move and then shelf climb

Don't do the whale-roll, stay on route and do the move that earns it a 5.10a under the 2nd bolt and up onto the block.

4 out of 5 stars fun flake climb

a tougher 5.9 than it apparently used to be due to a flake breaking off at the corner of the climb before it goes up. tougher clip on #3. lots of rope drag past #3. Very, very, very greasy during our apparent monsoon season this year in Austin (2007). Slipped off on a humid evening on my first time lead.

15 APR 2008: Finally got down to New Wall again in about 9 mos. Redpointed the climb.
