Description

The Super 8 is not only the smoothest “8” belay/rappel device…it’s also the lightest. The Super 8’s lightness is a result of a creative design that involves thinning material where it’s unneeded and keeping it thick at wear points. So, not only is it light, it’s durable. Of course, in its traditional role, the Super 8 provides a smooth, efficient means of rappelling.

*Light…but full-sized and durable
*Designed for use with thin 8.1 ropes to thick 11s
*Unique shape is thick at wear-points for added durability

It's small light weight, good to have on your belt for repelling,if you leave your ATC on the ground with the belayer.

Love my Super 8!

Great for rapelling.
Nice and light.
Small hole can be used like stich plate for single rope.

I use this all the time when I am rapelling. It is nice and smooth. Belaying on it is ok, I would rather use something else, but it works if I don't. Don't bother if you never or hardly ever rapel.

Very small and light-weight. Like all figure 8 devices, has a tendancy to twist the rope. Does not dissapate heat as well as a rescue 8 or ATC. Much smoother and easier to rappel with than an ATC, however, the ATC is a better device for the belay man. Very durable.

The ATC is superior in terms of belaying and rappelling. I would agree that the device is versitile and can come in handy for rescue situations... but so can 5 or 6 oval biners. I think everyone should know how to use one of these for belaying and rappelling, but I also feel they are becoming more and more obsolete.
