Description

The Marathon Rope series just keeps getting better, and better, and better. Climbers around the world tout the Marathon as the most durable, best handling ropes available. Sterling recognized long ago that all climbers, especially guides, sport climbers, and big wall climbers, can be tough on their ropes, so we designed a rope to “go the distance in the most demanding conditions.”The most common reason why ropes are retired, other than a severe fall, is premature sheath wear. This truly innovative rope features the thickest sheath (50% more yarn denier than a standard rope) of any rope on the market, making it extremely durable without being bulky. The other main technical innovation shared by the Marathon and all Sterling ropes and cords is DryCore, which provides maximum moisture resistance, keeping all your ropes dry, light and strong. All the ropes in the Marathon Series share these common performance and construction characteristics, which is why they have achieved a lofty status amongst climbers worldwide. (The 10.6 is rated for 14 falls, wieghs 79.2 G/M)

Good Stuff 5 out of 5 stars

Of all the ropes I've used, this one handles the best. It seems to be actively opposed to tangling and twisting and seems eager to jump into carabiners. I've had no problems with abrasion. It seems that the longer i use it the softer and more supple it becomes. the only problem i can think of (and i'm really fishing here) is that it seem to pick up more dirt and aluminum oxide than other ropes i've used, but otherwise it's great and i'd totally buy it again.

Nice rope. Smooth as silk and built to last.

I've had mine for around 6 months now. It's mostly seen use in the gym because it's been winter. Even so, it gets a lot of use in the gym and it's not showing any signs of wear on the sheath yet. On average, it's probably used for 10-20 climbs a week.

One especially nice feature is that every comments on just how supple a rope it is.

Bomb-Proof rope! I hated it when my rope wore out and she sheath was hashed! So I did some reseach and got one of these. Just check out the site and read though the technical info for several minutes and you'll why sterling ropes and especially the marathon series ropes are so nice! (50% thicker sheath!) I would recommend a smaller marathon for some activities (like if you just sport climb) and especially if weight is an issue.
