Why must a great thing go away???
Review by: unrooted, 2007-04-08
I bought this pad on sale because metolius has gone the way of fat crappy pads. This pad is perfect, just the right size and stiffness. The cover on mine has a car interior cover, somewhere between typical canvas and car upholstery, very nice and durable. Please revive this pad metolius!!!!
Very similar to the Organic pads everyone loves.

Large Crash Pad

I've been climbing with, sleeping on, and traveling with this pad for 4 years now. Still not bottoming out, and the diagonal hinge system keeps you from contacting the ground because it's reinforced with velcro. The only thing I wish it had is some sort of wrap around the side material so things don't accidently slid out of the bottom or sides of the pad. On the other hand, on a trip to Hueco we found that two of these pads perfectly filled the entire bottom of our two man tent. We slept like kings.

Good for easy runs. If you add it to the larger crash pad it makes highballs a little less scary. (Though I don't recommend highball's unless you are quite sure you can make it.)

By far the best pad in it's size class. Simple, sturdy, and tough. The 3 inches of foam doesn't seem like a lot, but I have never bottomed out on it, not even on the hinge. I would have liked a bigger pad, such as the XXL, but I really prefer hinged to taco style pads. Plus, the XXL is enormous, making it hard to fit in smaller vehicles. I hear that Metolius is coming out with a 4" thick version of this pad over the summer, so if you are considering this pad you might want to hold out for the thicker model.
