About Rocklands:
Rocklands is probably the most popular sport climbing area in the Cederberg. These beautiful rough, sandstone boulders in a semi-desert setting is also one of the top bouldering areas in the world. |
Nearest town or city: | Clanwilliam |
Directions: | Take the N1 from Cape Town and follow the N7 north. After about 200km take the R364 to Clanwilliam and drive through the town (the last petrol & supplies) to Pakhuis Pass in the direction of Calvinia. The road becomes a dirt road and after 18kms you will see Kliphuis Campground on the right. Continue for a further 3.5km. At the top of the pass take the dirt road that snakes off to the right and park before the gate. |

Access Issues: | The Cederberg mountains fall within a Cape Nature Conservation area (CNC) and you need to arrange a permit. (Call (022) 931-2088) Only a certain number are issued per day. Day permits can be obtained from the Kliphuis campsite when you arrive if you are only climbing in Rocklands. Access remains a sensitive issue due to initial bolting. (Please contact MCSA for info) |
