About Sudan:

Sudan has been a cauldron of civil unrest for all but 10 years of its independence from the UK in 1956. Nonetheless, lines have been and continue to be opened in the vast Sudanese desert, and peace talks gained momentum in 2002-03 with the signing of several accords, including a cease-fire agreement. This ain't Thailand, needless to say.
