About Horui-iwa:
A group of rocky outcrops that provide a variety of trad climbing routes from easy grade 3's (UIAA) to more challengeing 5.10s (YDS). Plenty of routes have "haken" bolts, which should be treated with suspicion. Best to bring a set of nuts and cams, or set up a top-rope. The area is very popular and is very close to Kobe, of which there is an excellent view, so it can get very very crowded at the weekends, particularly Sundays. |
Nearest town or city: | Rokko |
Directions: | From Hankyu Rokko station, take the No.16 bus to the Cable car. Take the cable car to the top (¥1000), and follow the road to the left. When you get to the Seminar House, past a junction and car park, take the public footpath to the left of the gate to the Seminar House and follow that around the Seminar House. This takes you to the top of th middle outcrop. Here the easiest option is to rappell down, though there is a path to the left. There is a pay campsite 20 minutes down the hill, though it seems to have limited open times. Given how accessible this area is from Kobe, there doesn't seem much need to camp. |
