About Cat Ba area:

From Cat Ba main harbour go eastwards towards Cai Beo village and Monkey Island. There are numerous free climbing possibilities here.
Approach: Hire a boat from Cat Ba harbour and turn left at the harbours sea exit. As the boat proceeds towards Cai Beo pier numerous routes are visible. Turning right at the harbour entrance/exit leads to another useful are for trad climbing!
Approach Time: 30 mins plus

Access Issues: At present trad climbing is tolerated locally by the authorities as this is a popular tourist area. However, as yet there is no clear permission to climb so people should be careful until the position is clarified. Climbers who set up bolted climbs as happens in secret, may hinder any progress with the authorities. This has been happening for several years in an area that has great potential for free/trad climbing!
