The Governor
About The Governor:
The Governor is one of the highest volcanic plugs in this vast volcanic province. It has the classic shape of a volcanic plug and is pretty much vertical around it`s entire circular perimeter. Climbs can be over a hundred metres high and there is one grand traverse of 195 metres. The rock is very featured so friction is not a problem. The whole mountain is quite high and suffers in the winter when the freezing westerlies come in. Climbing can be undertaken year round even in the height of summer. When the vast surrounding plains are baking the mountain can still be reasonabley cool. Facilities are very good with two camping areas and cabins are available for booking. |
